Stage 3: Marathon des Sables – update from Ash

Ash’s news from today:
‘I have made it through another day beautiful and hard today in equal measure. Massive dunes in the first section and then a very high jebel that we had to scramble up then flat very hot salt pans. For quite a way. Then more dunes and an amazing ancient castle on a rock island in the middle of the desert. I was slower today and your play lists really helped me get to the end. Very hot as well. 38 degrees all day and I was ruined by the end. But it is done. The messages and support from home are amazing and it has become a joke in the tent how many I have had. Love you loads. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Xxxx’
Below you will see why she has her fingers crossed for tomorrow – it’s the big double marathon day. 18-22 hours on the go, much of it in the dark. So when you are tucked up in your beds….lots love N
Today / Aujourd’hui / Hoy :
(EN) Today, dunes, dunes and more dunes . Last step before the ultimate test of 84,3km, runners have been careful. they took care about water because of extreme heat. At the bivouac, they can take a mint tea. Good for the mind.
Tomorrow / Demain / Mañana :
(EN) Tomorrow is THE big stage : 84,3 km between Ba and Hallou Hassi Tarfa. This is the stage feared by all runners : run at night, alone in the desert, alone with the desert silence. An extraordinary experience, typical of the MARATHON DES SABLES.
