Reza Mahammad cooks up a sumptuous feast at Explorers Club, Franschhoek

On a glorious autumnal day in Franschhoek Reza delivered a feast to over a dozen magazine editors and food writers in the comfort of Explorers Club, sponsored by Le Creuset, Chamonix, Colmant and Evian. The menu comprised of recipes in Reza’s new book, Reza’s Indian Spice. Reza’s skill is quite extraordinary and he had been whirling like a dervish for 48 hours to prepare the food, which was light and so incredibly tasty. I savoured the left overs for three days afterwards.
The extensive menu consisted of a beansprout salad with chargrilled asparagus, spinach koftas in tomato sauce, spicy chicken burgers, jewelled rice, spiced smoked salmon, sweet potato and goats cheese samosas, tomato ginger chutney, murgh irani, roasted rhubarb and almond tart and finally, if that was not enough, white chocolate and cardamon pannacotta, washed down with Colmant Brut, Chamonix Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2010 and Chamonix Greywacke Pinotage 2009.
We all had a fabulous day, which started with coffee at the new Deluxe Coffeeworks in Franschhoek (the recently opened first pure artisanal espresso bar in Franschhoek), and a book signing by Reuben Riffel.
